Do Carbohydrates make you Fat?

The summer season is coming again and that means shorts, t-shirts and swimwear. For many people, spring is the time of year to start losing weight and start the summer slim and fit!

To lose some weight quickly, carbohydrates disappear from the daily diet due to their reputation as thickeners. But is this true? Patriot Power Greens Review 2019 We explain the difference between the different types of carbohydrates, so that you can make the right choices from now on!

An important energy source

Carbohydrates are the energy source of the human body. We consume carbohydrates when we exercise or move , but also when we think or sleep.

The two types of carbohydrates

There are two types of carbohydrates: the digestible and the indigestible carbohydrates.

Indigestible carbohydrates

The indigestible carbohydrates belong to the dietary fiber group. As the name implies, our bodies cannot or hardly break down these substances in our digestion. The indigestible carbohydrates do not produce glucose. They mainly play an important role in the gastrointestinal tract. They stimulate your intestines, so that bowel movements are stimulated. You will find them a lot in bread , cereal products, vegetables and nuts. These products are also packed with vitamins and minerals and are therefore very healthy. It is therefore not wise to ban these products from your daily diet.

Digestible Carbohydrates

The digestible carbohydrates are quickly absorbed by the body and converted into glucose (sugar). They are an important energy supplier. If you do not burn them immediately, they are stored as fat. Products that contain a lot of digestible carbohydrates are fruit juices and products with sugars such as sweets and soft drinks. These are the unhealthy products with a lot of sugars and fats and you can leave these carbohydrates if you want to lose some kilos.

What role do carbohydrates play in weight loss?

If we ingest too much glucose, it is stored in the liver and muscles in the form of glycogen. Glycogen forms a reserve for our body. If we fall short of glucose then this is again made from the stored glycogen. There is only limited space for glycogen. If the glycogen supply is replenished and we receive even more glucose, this is converted to fat.

Slim into the summer?

To maintain a healthy weight it is always important to eat healthy and varied food and to get the right vitamins and minerals . Therefore, just keep eating whole-grain bread, whole-grain pastas and plenty of vegetables, fruit and nuts.
